Rich and Sorrowful

So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!

(Luke 18:22-24) NKJV

A problem we may have is trying to hold on to what we’ve got, and refusing to give. The rich young ruler was being the best person that he could be according to his understanding of the law, but he loved his possessions more than he loved his neighbors. We can’t overcome the law (Mosaic gravity) if we’re determined to hang on to it.

Ironically, this is something that secular culture understands.

You must train yourself to let go of everything that you are afraid to loose.

– Master Yoda

As strange as this may sound the modern age isn’t really about wealth and possessions. Most of us have what we need. It’s about significance. All generations since the Baby Boomers have grown up in an education system which is pushing the popular science (SciPop) narrative of godless existence.

Kids are taught from the time that they can look at a screen that the earth is an insignificant little speck which is orbiting an insignificant speck. The underlying message: you’re insignificant. That’s the part that’s going to be hard to let go of, it’s so deeply ingrained.

You want something significant? The Earth is at the center of the observable universe. It’s empirical. It’s a fact.

The observable universe is a spherical region of the Universe comprising all matter that can be observed from Earth at the present time.

– Observable universe, definition Wikipedia

There’s only one reason why the Earth would exist at the center of the universe: God put it there. On Purpose. The problem we have is that generations of Trekkie scientists and teachers have been teaching us that the observable universe is a small part of something bigger. Time to let go of that. The observable universe is all there is. What you see is what you get.

June 13 (14) – Giving and Receiving

We overcome the power of the law [M] by being quickened [q] through faith in Jesus Christ. We have to be willing to let go of everything the world has to offer [pG], and ready to allow the Lord to sustain us.
