The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.(Psalms 12:6-7) KJV
We began to search out Bible passages that would substantiate the link between God can’t lie and the Bible is true. Before we knew it we were reaching for our copy of Thou Shalt Keep Them.
However, we quickly realized that there are problems with this approach:
- On October 2nd we said that we wouldn’t waste time with commentaries,
- Using the Bible to prove the Bible makes atheists salivate,
- Thou Shalt Keep Them is possibly the worst book ever written.
People who believe the Bible also believe that there are right Bibles and wrong Bibles. The reasons for why are so complicated that a recent attempt to “shed light” on the issue became what we regard to be the worst book ever written. It’s right up there with the poetry of Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings. Other than the fact that the book is unreadable the premise, that you should only use the King James Version (and your going to be in big trouble if your Pastor finds any Bible other than a KJV in your house), is fundamentally flawed.
Thou Shalt Keep Them was written by a group of Pastors back in the 2000s. One of the authors was the same pastor who had us voted out of church because we tried to explain the Bible to him. It’s ironic, we offered to cover his preaching at a local rest home on Tuesday afternoons so that he could devote his time to writing his portion of the book. When we think of that book we have a mental image of a line of grumpy middle-aged men in faded suits, each with a successively bigger baseball bat. They’re lining up to beat us about the head to make us believe like they do.
We don’t have a problem with anything they say. We’re a believer. We just think that their approach has had its day. There is no possible way that a book like that is going to connect with the 18-24 year old demographic who spend their days on Instagram.
We need your financial help but Mattymatica isn’t a religious organization, charity or new age cult.
