The Accuracy of News Reports

You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.

(Exodus 23:1) ESV

Whether a news article is accurate or not is hard to determine. We’re attempting to compile data on events where unexpected deaths occur and the information that we have is highly unreliable.

For instance, news from government sources about the numbers of people killed in military activity has been sanitized for our consumption and it may intentionally under count casualties.

News reports from natural disasters or catastrophes may be in very remote regions and the reporting may capture only a small portion of the actual toll. It may change over time.

We just have to do the best we can. We report what we find.
