Scripture includes a description of the deposition of Precambrian sediment in response to the creation of gravity on the 2nd day. That may seem far-fetched, but it’s an example of Biblical exposition.

Sedimentary, My Dear Watson

Floods leave deposits of sediment. Over time sediment can become rock. If animals and plants are trapped in the sediment they become fossils. Sedimentary rock covers about 70% of the earth’s surface.

Depositional Environments

Interesting thing about fossils: Fossils don’t just record evidence of ancient life, they also show us clues about what the environment was like when the fossil was made, or deposited.

The Second Day

On the second day the formless mass of the deep, which teemed with life created on the first day, was ordered. The ordering was to fulfill the requirement for a permanent separation of light and dark.
