A Sea of Glass

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12:3)

And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

(Revelation 4:6) KJV

Accepting the firmament as a sphere of rigid crystal on the edge of space solves many scriptural and physical problems. The King James Version is the only Bible from which an accurate cosmological model may be deduced.

Job 37:18

Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

Let’s not get carried away though, trust Job to bring us back to reality. This gets us back to the very meaning of the Hebrew word translated firmament – raqia. Something which has been spread out into a thin sheet. This time the concept is connected with something strong, which twelve layers of different crystalline compounds would be. It looks like molten glass. This once again connects our firmament with the sea of glass as we saw in Revelation 4, 15 and 21.

And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. One of our favorite ways to study the Bible is to follow a doctrine through from the first time it’s mentioned to the last. This is a great way to develop understanding of the doctrine in the broad narrative of scripture.
