The Son of Destruction

While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

(John17:12) NKJV

The son of perdition is used to refer to Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus. The paradox is that, even though Judas made a choice which led the Lord to the cross, it was a necessary part of God’s will and the plan of redemption.

Answer 1

For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s gift, so that no one can boast about it.

(Ephesians 2:8-9) Good News Translation
  • As we still have to ask God/Jesus for forgiveness, as we always did, why was a crucifixion necessary?

Under normal circumstances you’d think that answering this question would be simple. Here’s one way to answer it.

The Reason for Hell

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

(Luke 16:23) KJV

A lot of people are troubled by the question, if God is loving why would he send people to hell? Making the case for why is quite involved and most people will simply tune out and decide that they don’t need a God like that. To their peril.

The Physics of Christianity

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

(Romans 8:1-8) NKJV

We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) found a statement of the role of gravity in the plan of redemption and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans chapter 8 resolves as Newton’s second law of motion (F=MA).

Lay Aside Every Weight

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(Hebrews 12:1-2) KJV

When we believe in Jesus Christ we’re quickened, and we have the power to overcome the real weight of real sin which is dragging us down to a real hell.

We Have all Fallen Short

But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

(Romans 3:21-23) NKJV

Mosaic gravity, M the law, condemns us because we’ve all fallen short of the glory of God. Yet M has no power to save us from the condemnation that is clearly establishes. The only hope for our salvation is q, the quickening which comes from believing in Jesus Christ.
