No Night There
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
(Revelation 21:23-25) KJV
Life is temporary. What comes next? God’s given us a description of what comes next and the choice of whether or not to believe it. We acknowledge belief in God’s testimony by accepting Jesus Christ as our savior.
God is unchanging, which means that he’s consistent. He doesn’t change, but often our understanding changes as we come into alignment with his will. About 20 years ago it occurred to us that gravity is a possible mechanism for the ordering of creation that took place on the second day. Little did we know it at the time, but by pursuing this idea and testing it against the scriptures to see if it holds up, we would find that it’s forms the basis of a unified theory of everything, from the physical ordering of creation, to the plan of redemption through faith in Jesus Christ.

The image today is a nice attempt to express many of the elements that we know will be part of the new Jerusalem but it misses the point. The city will made of gold which is transparent like glass so that there’ll be nothing to impede or obstruct the light of the glory of God – no night there.
