You may be uncomfortable with the idea that God uses a section of the firmament as a movable platform like a giant cosmic surfboard. We get it, this is a deep end and we went off it. It’s what we do.
The thing is: the firmament is clearly a made thing, not merely the empty expanse of the sky as most translations render it:
The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
(Psalm 19:1) NKJV
Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
(Psalms 150:1) NKJV
Another example of God using a section of the firmament as a movable platform is found in Exodus. In Exodus 24 Moses took Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel went up to Mount Sinai to meet with the Lord. They saw under his feet a pavement of sapphire stone. What could this be but a section of the firmament?
Given all this, and references to God and the angelic host visiting Earth on a crystalline pavement, the star of Bethlehem is a piece of crystalline firmament material (CFM).
