And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.(Genesis 1:3) KJV
The Bible accounts for the Big Bang nucleosynthesis. Popular science (SciPop) grudgingly arrived at this conclusion but it has no cause for it nor source for the material used. The Bible gives us both.
We have to take care when we pick our way through the SciPop narrative of the origin of the universe. SciPop is a mixture of truth and error so we have to use discernment to parse the difference between one and the other.
We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.– Matty’s Razor
On one had science is making a good faith effort to account for all observations and propose a plausible rationale for where the material in the universe came from. This type of information can easily be incorporated into the creation narrative. On the other hand SciPop has set itself the task of accounting for all observations in a way that invokes no supernatural cause. A precondition of the SciPop model is that God cannot be a causal factor.
In a starkly practical way the truth has been a priori eliminated as a possible conclusion. As a result, the SciPop attempt to mold our observed reality into a narrative of godless existence means that truth and error, facts and speculation, are woven together in what appears to be a rational sounding argument. In the Bible it’s referred to as a strong delusion.
There are some major problems with the SciPop narrative which is the extent to which it has woven together empirical observations and experimental data with untestable assumptions. There are some glaring examples in this quote from Einstein online.
The big bang models are the foundation of modern cosmology. Firmly grounded in Einstein’s theory of general relativity, they describe a universe that began in a very hot initial state and has expanded (and cooled down) ever since. They make precise predictions about nucleosynthesis in the early universe, the existence and properties of the cosmic background radiation, and the distribution of distant galaxies in the cosmos, which have been confirmed by astronomical observation.– Big Bang models Einstein Online
The error here is believing that the universe.. began in a very hot initial state and has expanded (and cooled down) ever since. This cannot be known. It’s a prediction based on two assumptions:
- if God is not a causal factor something else has to be, and
- the universe is expanding.
Both of these assumptions are speculation. The purpose of the SciPop narrative is to establish the conditions necessary for nucleosynthesis. Nucleosynthesis, on the other hand, is factual since it accounts for the process of creation which God employed. Genesis 1:2 provides the conditions necessary for nucleosynthesis.
- Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
- believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
- confess your sin.
Like most things SciPop is a mixture of truth and error, fact and fiction. In this case it’s possible to identify truth: nucleosynthesis, the logical sequence by which the elements of the periodic table were constructed by fusing Hydrogen nuclei. We can consider this to be a fact. We can also identify the error: the Big Bang theory. This is fiction. We don’t have to deny any evidence, we just have to separate what’s real from what’s not.
- ERROR – Big Bang. Not a testable hypothesis and therefore unscientific. It is pure speculation. Technically speaking it is an inductive rationalization of evidence to fit a premise.
- TRUTH – Nucleosynthesis. The product of over 100 years of diligent scientific inquiry as to the nature of matter. If matter has an origin, this is a perfectly logical explanation of how matter was constructed from protons.
The Big Bang nucleosynthesis is something that SciPop grudgingly settled on like a fly on a piece of meat that keeps moving. It wasn’t at all happy about the idea that the universe has a beginning. Ideally SciPop would like be able to prove that the universe has always been here and that it will always be here. However it wasn’t to be. The fact that the universe has a beginning became an inescapable conclusion based on experimental evidence.
Nucleosynthesis is tied to the idea that the periodic table of elements has been constructed by fusing Hydrogen nuclei. That’s the easy part. The problem for SciPop is to find the source of the Hydrogen. It doesn’t have one. There’s no predictive testable hypothesis for the source of the Hydrogen in the Big Bang nucleosynthesis. That means that it’s not scientific. The Big Bang theory is pseudoscience.
However, all matter in the universe is made out of atoms. This is a fact. It’s something which we can all agree on regardless of what we believe about science or the Bible. It’s not paradigm-dependent. Atoms are composed of protons, neutrons and electrons. Hydrogen nuclei consist of one proton and one electron. When two Hydrogen nuclei fuse together they form a larger nuclei called Heavy Hydrogen and a photon is emitted. Photon is the scientific word for light.
The Bible settles this issue within the first 3 verses. The Bible tells us that, in the beginning, there was a body of water called the deep. Then God said: let there be light, a translation which could also be rendered: Let light be, or, God caused light to appear. Light is a reaction, not an action. It’s an effect of something else happening, some other cause. In this case the command that God spoke caused Hydrogen atoms (H+) to fuse together. Light was generated as the periodic table of elements was created.
- IF water exist as two ionic species: H+ and OH–
- WHICH requires the presence of two atomic nuclei: Hydrogen and Oxygen
- THEN we have three particles present: H+, O2- and OH–
