There was Never, Ever, Nothing

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

(Colossians 1:16-17) ESV

As strange as it may sound we have to overcome the ridiculous notion that God created the universe from nothing. Invisible isn’t nothing it’s unseen, like the air we breath. It’s made of atoms and molecules like everything else.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

(John 4:24) KJV

Spirit means breath or wind. These may be unseen but they aren’t nothing. It’s going to be hard, if not impossible, to overcome our tendency to think of God as separate from or apart from creation but we have to make the conceptual shift to God, through the son, becoming the creation. This is expressed beautifully in Colossians 1:16-17 above. All things were created through Him and for Him. It gives us way to define creation which is congruent with the first law of thermodynamics.

Creation is the supernatural cause of the universe, a sequentially more complex ordering of a pre-existent body of water called “the deep” which obeys all physical laws including the first law of thermodynamics which states that energy can be transformed from one form to another, but can be neither made to appear from nothing nor be destroyed. The Bible clearly states that God became the universe, the Word became flesh, through the person of Jesus Christ. (Ex Abyssi).

There is no statement in scripture which says that God created the universe from nothing (Ex Nihilo).

– Creation, definition

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

(Genesis 1:2) KJV

How do we get from the beginning, elemental spirits in the cosmos, to a universe teeming with life? Through the deep.

The word created doesn’t require the meaning from nothing. Let’s be clear on that point. It’s a sequentially more complex ordering of something which was already there. Creation, as it’s been described to us, began with a precursor: a body of water called the deep. This was the source of Hydrogen for nucleosynthesis which means that Genesis 1:2 takes place before the popular science narrative of the Big Bang begins.

Faith is believing in something that you can’t see, because of evidence.

– Faith, definition

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

(John 1:14) ESV

It would also appear that we’ve been given the origin of the deep. The deep wasn’t created, he was begotten as the Word. There’s a subtle difference. He was before all things and in him all things consist. The first born of all creation. There was an act of conception and the Son was brought forth as the deep. The Word was made flesh.

Salvation

  1. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
    • believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
  2. confess your sin.

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

(Hebrews 11:3) ESV

Did God create himself from nothing? What was he before he did it? According to His own testimony God has always existed.

The reason for creation is the manifestation of sentient life with free will.

– The Reason for Creation

You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.

(Isaiah 43:10) ESV

The ridiculous notion that God created the universe from nothing, Ex nihilo, is a circular paradox which backs into a logical fallacy in order to avoid a simple truth. There was never, ever, nothing. God didn’t create the atoms. He had to have been the atoms or he didn’t exist. The proposed alternative explanation is from the deep, Ex abyssi.
