Why did God Create the Universe?

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

(Philippians 2:12-13) KJV

God *could* have created a perfect world, and He *could* have made companions who were as pure as the matter which he *could* have made from nothing, but he didn’t. He created a corrupted world from water.

Why? The question that we wish to answer is:

Question: Why did God create the universe?

– Matty

How can we go about answering this question? As always the best guidance we’ll find is going to be in scripture.

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

God is doing his good pleasure. However, he’s not alone, he’s doing his good pleasure by working in us. Does this mean that God, Alpha and Omega, realized that they were alone and they wanted to share their experience with others? Were we created so that God would have people to fellowship with? For the time being this is the answer that we’re going with. However, this is the point where we’re going to break with tradition.

Why? Why go to the trouble of creating a corrupted world which is temporary and bound for destruction? Imagine an Almighty God creating millions and millions of people to worship Him. As gratifying as it may have been to create them, being worshiped by people who can’t do anything else isn’t. It’s pointless, vain and empty. How would an Almighty God create people who could choose whether or not they worship Him?

Faith is believing in something that you can’t see, because of evidence.

– Faith, definition

He’d have to create a universe in which sentient beings have free will.
