The pillars of the earth” and their synonyms can be incorporated into a 3D model of the internal structure of a spherical Earth. Despite what you may have heard they don’t require us to believe that the Earth is flat.

The Beams of His Chambers

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

(Psalms 104:3) KJV

No this isn’t poetry. Well, yes it is poetry, but it’s not poetry for poetry’s sake. It’s a poetic summary of a geophysical process. This describes the pillars of the earth as they were formed on the third day.

Psalms 104:1-6

Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind: Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.

We know, it’s the Psalms, it’s just poetry, right? Here’s the thing: it can be poetry and accurate physics at the same time.

Is Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, one of the pillars of the Earth?

The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

(Psalms 75:3) KJV

Four different Biblical phrases refer to a specific feature of the internal structure of the Earth. They confirm our hypothesis that the interior of the Earth was tehom before Noah’s flood, and sheol after it.
