What is Satan?

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

(Revelation 12:9) KJV

Satan is a living creature who’s visible as a red dragon but he’s also spiritual. We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) deduce a mechanism by which he may change his appearance by using a prediction of relativity.

Satan (adversary) is described here as a physical* being. However even Christians who are otherwise orthodox and fundamental don’t think that he is one. To them Satan is a spirit. The nuance here is that you can’t be one without the other, Satan is both a physical* being and a spirit. In fact, if Satan is a moving creature that has life then he has a soul as well. He has to have all three aspects of life like all other living creatures. This is patterned after God, Elohim, who is a trinity.

Trinity: Body, Spirit, Soul

  1. Body: a visible host, or tabernacle.
    • includes blood, an interface between body and spirit;
    • a plasma which allows metabolism.
  2. Spirit: invisible breath or wind.
  3. Soul: heart and mind;
    • a gravity node with a frequency unique to each individual;
    • the mind, the seat of our consciousness and personality;
    • the heart, the emotions and passion which drive and motivate us;
    • it makes us sentient.

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

Underfoot

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

(Romans 16:20) KJV

The Apostle Paul obviously thought that Satan had a physical* nature simply because you can’t bruise a spirit with your feet. We have classified Satan, a being created on the 4th day in the firmasphere, as follows:

Satan, Classification

  • Phylum Cordata
    • Subphylum Vertebrata
      • Class Reptilia
        • Order Serpentes
          • Suborder Squamata
            • Family Dragonis
              • Genus Dragonis
                • Dragonis satanas (Satan, the Devil)

Faith is believing in something that you can’t see, because of evidence.

Transformation

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

(2 Corinthians 11:14) KJV

We have considered a Bible passage in which Satan is described as a great dragon and an old serpent. This is a physical* form, but evidently not a particularly pleasant one which is why Satan has mastered the art of changing his visible* appearance.

*The words physical and spiritual are commonly used to refer to things we can see (physical) or can’t see (spiritual). This isn’t scientifically accurate and it’s something we have to clear up. For more information see the post visible and invisible.

The reason for creation is the manifestation of sentient life with free will.

– The Reason for Creation

Visible and Invisible

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

(Colossians 1:16) KJV

We’re using a deductive approach and allowing the Bible to reveal the logical step-wise way in which it interacts with our environment. We referred to Satan several times already as both a physical being and a spirit. The nuance here is that even though spirits are unseen they’re also physical because they’re made of atoms and molecules just like everything else.

If we call a red dragon physical because we can see it, what do we call a sweet-smelling fragrance, being composed of the vapor of fragrant oils, because it’s also physical? Fortunately we have some help here. Paul understood this issue because he explained it as we see in the passage above.

Visible and invisible, these have to be our words, not physical and spiritual. We can’t refer to the visible world as physical because the invisible world is also physical. Science see, it’s very useful when handled properly.

How can a visible red dragon which has an invisible soul and spirit change its appearance to look like an angel of light? Can we deduce a mechanism, from the realm of accepted physics and which is congruent with scripture, for how this is possible? The answer of course is: yes we can. It’ll take some digging, but we’re going to use this as another clue to understand how the Bible interacts with the world around us. Today’s image is from here.

Salvation

  1. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
    • believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
  2. confess your sin.
