The Pillars of the Earth

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.

(1 Samuel 2:8)

The Hebrew word tebel (world) may be used to refer to part of the Earth (erets). The world has been set upon the pillars of the earth. We’ve deduced that in this instance world refers to the crust and mantle.

Hell From Beneath is Moved for Thee

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

(Isaiah 14:9) KJV

Here we see the implication that hell expands in anticipation of the arrival of new souls. This could be the result of the prior arrival of other souls causing an increase in gravitational attraction of the core which causes an increase in the amount of inner mantle material that is being pulled in, which increases the gravitational force of the core.

The Sides of the Pit

Cutaway of planet Earth showing the crust, mantle, great gulf and hell.

Asshur is there and all her company: his graves are about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword: Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.

(Ezekiel 32:22-23) KJV

We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) have been working towards the construction of a model of the interior of the Earth which fully integrates every possible way that hell or the afterlife is referred to in the Bible.

The Nether Parts of the Earth

To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

(Ezekiel 31:18) KJV

Yesterday we took a detour to slam dunk relativistic time dilation as proof of the Bible. Today we’re going back to our discussion of a possible transition in the internal structure of the Earth when tehom became sheol.

The Midst Of Hell

The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

(Ezekiel 32:21) KJV

In the King James version of the Bible the word hell occurs 54 times. In the Old Testament this is a translation of the Hebrew word sheol – שְׁא֣וֹל. In the New Testament the word hell is a translation of three Greek words: hades– ᾅδῃ, tartarusταρταρώσας and gehennaγέενναν. I will explain how all of these words relate to the internal structure of the earth or, in one case, why it doesn’t.

Hell: αδη – Hadés

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

(Luke 16:23) KJV

We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) made an extensive survey of the ways in which the interior of the Earth is described in Old Testament Hebrew, but how’s it described in New Testament Greek?

The Sides of the Pit

Asshur is there and all her company: his graves are about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword: Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.

(Ezekiel 32:22-23) KJV

Yesterday we concluded that after death all souls go to the grave. This is one of the ways in which the word sheol is translated. We’ve found that after that there are two possible outcomes:

  1. Those who knew the Lord during their life remain in the mantle,
  2. Those who rejected the Lord descend into the core.

The Midst of Hell

The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

(Ezekiel 32:21) KJV

A lot has been said, mostly fictional, about the levels of hell. As it turns out there really are levels to hell and they’re functionally synonymous with the regions of the interior of the earth which we can derive from seismological data.

The Lower Parts of the Earth

(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

(Ephesians 4:9-10) KJV

After the crucifixion Jesus descended into the lower parts of the Earth. He went there to gather the souls of the Old Testament saints who were awaiting his coming.

The Foundations of the World

Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

(Psalms 18:15) KJV

We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) illustrate a difference between the Hebrew erets (earth), and tebel (world). The foundations of the world (tebel) refers to the crust and mantle which was exposed as the ocean floor.
